A Poughkeepsie, New York, native, Frank Gardner graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design.
His muse eventually led him to San Miguel de Alellende, Mexico, where he now lives with his young family.
Oil is Gardner’s medium, done on location, whether in pursuit of a landscape, seascape, or town market day.
Gardner talks and acts like a colorist–that aspect of his art that charms me most–celebrating appealing color combinations where he finds them.
Texture reigns in his style; his love of the tactile leading him, not only to stroke, but smear and lift liberally.
