Martin Machado, reviewed here recently, now offers us a new body of painting, photograph, video, and more, called Too Far Gone. It opens at Gallery Hijinks, May 5, 2012, 2309 Bryant Street, San Francisco, California. His new work explores nostalgia and reality through the eyes of a lowly deckhand wandering the seas.
Machado spent six months at sea as a watch-standing deckhand on an international container ship. Back and forth, from New York to Singapore, stopping at many ports in between, and eventually crossing the Pacific returning him to the San Francisco Bay, he did his job.
This meant spending eight hours on the bridge as a lookout, giving him ample time to wander while staring at the horizon. Be sure to catch this exciting new art by Martin Machado!
